Welcome to the Linode Wiki!

This is a legacy site, which is running in read-only mode. This is a mirror of the old Linode wiki, which went offline on June 15th, 2014. Please use the official Linode Library instead. This site is not affiliated with Linode.

Introduction to Linode

Linode provides a highly customizable Virtual Machine Management Platform using Linux, that lets you configure your own server complete with root access, without the burden of a dedicated server's upkeep, maintenance, and co-location fees.

You can find more official information on Linode on the following pages, then come back here once you're up and running:

At any time, you can refer to the FAQ for further information. See the list of Linode Specific wiki documents for additional information.

Administration of your Linode

Linode provides the greatest flexibility with management of your Linode. You can use LISH to login to your console just as you would if you had a keyboard and monitor hooked up to it. The Linode Manager allows you to set up multiple configurations, manage disk sizes, configure reverse DNS, upgrade your Linode instantly, and monitor your Linode.

Common Problems

  • Alloc_pages - Problems with memory?
  • Missing memory - Does top or free report that not all the memory you paid for is present?
  • Rebooting on OOM - Do you have an occasional process that really likes to explore the memory space? You can panic the kernel and force a reboot if you run out of memory.
  • I can't reach my linode - If you're having trouble reaching your linode, the problem could be the network
